The display is one of the best things about the Honor 4X.The honor 4X features a 5.5-inch fully laminated HD IPS Display with OTP calibration technology for better HD color calibration and smooth HD movie experience. Its not hard to find a 720p display in a lot of the budget smartphones these days, but the Honor 4X uses the OTP calibration technology which calibrated the colors in a proper way without any oversaturation or blandness effect. On the right hand side are the volume rocker and the power button whereas left hand edge is clean . The power button is right where your thumb will be and perfectly set. On the base is the microUSB interface, mic that is primary, and single loudspeaker. On the top  is the headphone jack, and mic that is secondary. On the rear is the 13 megapixel camera with LED flash that is single. The rear cover also gets the Honor logo  etched into it as well as the cover is readily removable.

The rear panel has a fabric like feel texture  that neither looks nor feels great as the plastic used in the construction. You get access to the double SIM card slots combined with the microSD card slot on opening the cover. The battery is non removable.Overall the build quality is good.

Hardware & Performance

The Honor 4X runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 which houses  a quad core Cortex A53 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz and Adreno 306 GPU. There is also 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory of which 4GB is available to the user. It can be further expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card.

The general performance of the phone was truly remarkable. Snapdragon 410 chipset are not just known to be blazing quick performers, being tuned more for power consumption than operation. The Honour 4X did fairly good, running easily most of the time. The 2GB RAM also helps a lot, where the phone keeps running nicely even for those who have a couple of apps open in the background. Gaming operation was likewise acceptable.

Video quality was adequate and the speakers were loud enough to see videos without earphones. Despite the speaker being on one side, the phone is loud enough. There was not any distortion of volume at maximum amounts either.

Battery

The phone includes a 3,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 410 chipsets are also famous because of their efficiency.  So a big battery and power efficient chipset is a perfect recipe for long battery life. And really, the Honour 4X last fairly long on one charge. On an average day with ordinary use, the phone lasted a day plus a half on just one charge, giving upwards of 7.1 hours of on screen time. Despite significant use, you can nevertheless get one day of good use with over 5 hours of on screen time with this particular phone, with two SIM cards. In addition, it includes an Ultra power saving mode which may be activated steered in the shortcuts menu.

Software

The Honour 4X running on Android 4.4 KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion MUI 3.0 on top. EMUI has its good and the bad as custom skins go.The default theme has icons with round edges which seems to be quite boring but this is not exclusive to Honor as other Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, Gionee, Vivo also have the same problem, but of course you can change them if you wish so, for that you have to install others launcher on your system. With the Themes app, much like with the Cyanogen OS on the OnePlus One, you can customise the fonts, wallpaper, lock transition screen, house wallpaper from multiple themes and make your own custom theme.

There are a few tasteful design choices, like the Settings app, which undoubtedly seems fine. As do many of the stock apps the notification drawer also seems great. The lock screen also offers a magazine mode, which automatically pulls at high resolution backgrounds, all which seem fantastic and there’s a fresh one each single time you unlock the display.

The same as Xiaomi MIUI Honor also have, the notifications drawer shows two sections – Shortcuts and notifications. As the name indicates, the Shortcuts provides you access to menus that are fast including bluetooth, brightness adjustment, auto- settings, rotate etc, which may be rearranged according to your own setting. Settings menu is straightforward and there are movement gesture at the same time.

Pressing on the square shaped menu button, brings the recent programs which may be swept away to lock in the program or pulled down upon and released to lock them up. To clear all of the uses you simply swipe to the top of the base.

Bottom line

The honor 4X is priced fairly nicely in India or other countries, which will be yet another crown in its feather. There actually is not much wrong with this phone. The screen is not bad, the functionality is not bad, the cameras are superb and the battery life is outstanding. If you like shooting high quality pictures and also want a great battery backup and don’t want spend much money on a smartphone, then this is the best choice in these conditions. Overall great budget oriented smartphone
